The American beauty specialist closed its 2024-2025 financial year with another quarter of growth. Estée Lauder has returned to growth in mainland China and achieved strong sales in the fragrance category.

 

Is this the end of the tunnel? After announcing a major restructuring plan at the beginning of the year (involving 5,800 to 7,000 job cuts by the end of 2026), Estée Lauder returned to growth in the first quarter of its 2025-26 fiscal year, which ended in September.

 

Revenue up but profits down

 

While in fiscal year 2024-25, its revenue fell by 8% to $14.3 billion, in the first quarter of 2025-26, the American group not only saw its revenue increase by 3.6% to $3.48 billion, but also exceeded ( $3.38 billion) the expectations of Factset analysts. The icing on the cake was that the Chinese market, which had been struggling for several quarters, showed signs of recovery.
