76th Cannes Film Festival: Yves Saint Laurent launches his film production company

On the occasion of the announcement of the official selection for the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the French luxury house Yves Saint Laurent revealed yesterday the creation of its film production company. The brand’s creative director, Anthony Vaccarello, will work closely with the company.

 

Yves Saint Laurent goes to the big screen! The famous luxury brand announced Thursday the creation of a film production company, Saint Laurent Productions. It will make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in the official selection with “Strange Way of life”, by Pedro Almodóvar.

 

The fashion house, which belongs to the Kering group, says it is the first luxury brand to have film production as a full-fledged business.

 

Saint Laurent’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello, who has been with the company since 2016, will make the costumes for the films produced by Saint Laurent Productions.

 

“I want to work with all the great film talent that has inspired me over the years and give them a space”, he said in a statement.

 

Saint Laurent Productions will thus participate in the 76th Cannes Film Festival from May 16 to 27 as part of the official selection with Pedro Almodóvar’s “Strange Way of Life,” starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, the statement said.

 

Committed to cinema

 

Kering is already committed to the world of cinema, particularly with Women in Motion, which for the past 9 years “highlights women in cinema, in front of and behind the camera”. This year, the award will be presented to Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh.

 

David Cronenberg and Paolo Sorrentino are among the filmmakers with whom Saint Laurent Productions has other projects in the works.

 

“These directors never fail to open my mind and, in a way, the singular and radical vision they bring to cinema has made me the person I am today”, says Anthony Vaccarello.

 

In 2022, Saint Laurent achieved a turnover of 3.3 billion euros, up 33% compared to the previous year. The brand did not specify how much money will be invested in the films it intends to produce.
