Exclusive : Bvlgari’s new watchmaking record on the cover of Luxus+’s upcoming Luxury Journals !

Bvlgari unveiled this Monday its new masterpiece marking the Italian brand’s eighth record : the Octo Finissimo Ultra, the thinnest mechanical watch in the world, with an impressive thickness of 1.8 mm. And to mark the occasion, this timepiece is featured on the cover of the new special Geneva Watch Week 2022 issue of Luxus+ Luxury Journals, coming soon !

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Octo Finissimo, Bvlgari has just unveiled a new edition of its world record-breaking finesse watch. The new opus, named Octo Finissimo Ultra, comes a little closer to perfection.

An extraordinary watchmaking adventure, brilliantly led by CEO Jean-Christophe Babin, Watch Division Director Antoine Pin and Watch Design Director Fabrizio Buonamassa. “Octo is probably one of the most extraordinary watchmaking adventures I have ever experienced. In just ten years, we have set a completely new standard in watchmaking, especially with Octo Finissimo, which has broken seven consecutive world records and received more than 60 international awards. This watch has totally reinvented mechanical movements,” Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bvlgari, told Luxus Plus magazine.

And for good reason, since its launch in 2014, the Octo Finissimo has never ceased to impress with its prowess. From the design, to the technique, to the finishing… This eighth world record of the collection reinforces the status of the Italian House as a cador in watchmaking. Indeed, this is what makes the story so special : Italian know-how that manages to reinvent Swiss watchmaking. A real pride for the three managers behind this watch.

In technical terms, Bvlgari highlights the meticulousness of the art of watchmaking with this new timepiece. The Italian House has indeed redefined the contours of traditional fine watchmaking by applying a touch of absolute innovation, in form and substance. “We started to imagine a certain configuration, but I immediately realised that in order to achieve this result (the thickness of the watch is 1.8 mm), we had to completely change the way we imagined the watch. One of the things we did was to distribute more components around the centre of the watch. We changed a lot of things, including the shape of the Octo ; as you can see, the dial, even the glass, has an unusual shape,” explains Fabrizio Buonamassa, design director at Bvlgari.

The Octo Finissimo Ultra is indeed unusual, it pushes the limits of the imagination. This notion of going beyond is reflected in the Octo Finissimo Ultra, as Bvlgari watch division director Antoine Pin describes for Luxus+ about the Ultra designation : “When you are ultra, you go beyond the limits, you are in the extreme. What interests me is going beyond the limits, going off the beaten track. We have built a culture of going beyond, and there is this approach in Ultra. And then there’s another thing about the Ultra, for me, which is the magic. Like ultraviolet light, which is invisible, the Ultra is an extraordinary watch, a form of invisible magic.”
