The international leather industry meets again on September 9 at the Maison de la Chimie in Paris to discuss and network around the many themes of CSR. LUXUS PLUS, press partner of the Sustainable Leather Forum (SLF), gives you an overview of the pre-programme.
The sixth SLF (Sustainable Leather Forum), organized by Alliance France Cuir (formerly Conseil National du Cuir) under the sponsorship of the French Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, will take place on September 9, 2024 in Paris at the Maison de la Chimie. The event is sponsored by the Sic group (société internationale du cuir) and APLF, the organizer of trade fairs dedicated to the leather industry.
The program includes round tables, talks, keynotes, pitch sessions, an exhibition of key CSR suppliers, and networking opportunities!
Tickets are already available on the event website.
Among its partners, LUXUS PLUS will once again be present. Alongside numerous other partners, including French industry federations (Cuirs et Peaux, Tannerie Mégisserie, Chaussure, Ganterie, Maroquinerie, enseignes de la Chaussure, Cordonnerie), the Centre technique du cuir, Leather Naturally and other media (FashionNetwork, Ilm, Leather Fashion Design, Obiettivo, Rsedatanews, World Leather).
Over 400 participants
As in previous years, over 400 participants from leading positions in the leather, fashion and luxury industries (general management, CSR, materials R&D, marketing and communications, etc.) will be attending what has become the leading international event (with over 25 international experts and more than 10 nationalities represented) dedicated to the leather industry in terms of CSR.
They will gain a better understanding of the latest developments on major themes such as “reducing environmental impact, eco-design, resource and waste management, traceability, duty of care, working conditions, animal welfare, labeling, technological innovations and consumer expectations”…
Speakers already confirmed include Nick Winters, vice-president of the International Hide Council (ICHSLTA), Fernando Bellese, senior director for the beef and leather supply chain at WWF (World Wildlife Fund) USA, François Roques, managing director of Mégisserie de la Molière, and Mansury Rocquin, plastics and recycling expert at REGN Performance Polymers. Representatives from IDELE (Institut de l’Elevage), HCP (Hermès Cuirs Précieux), Kering, Tanneries Roux, ITC – International Trade Centre, the Fédération Française de la Maroquinerie and the CTC are also expected to attend…
As last year, some twenty exhibitors specializing in CSR (including Atelier des Matières, ICEC, Corium, Hidexe, Recycuir, Retraced, GSC Group, Footbridge, ICEC, Authentic Material, LWG, Les Compagnons du Devoir, ICFA, Trustrace, ID Factory,…) will be presenting their services and solutions to support companies.
Three innovations
But the SLF is also innovating this year, to further strengthen its impact and intensify exchanges between participants.
The major new feature is the extension of the remote event on Tuesday, September 10, via a dedicated international platform, in the form of one-to-one matchmaking appointments in visio-meeting. Participants who have created a personalized profile presenting their services and solutions, will be able to exchange ideas in greater depth and on a one-to-one basis.
In addition, on September 9, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, a series of pitches will be held, enabling companies wishing to speak on a subject defined and validated with the organizing committee to make 15-minute presentations to a qualified audience.
Finally, a gala dinner will bring the day to a close on September 9.
The day will be rich in quality presentations.
The pre-program
According to the September 9 pre-program, after welcoming participants at 8:30 a.m., an introduction at 9:00 a.m., and an opening speech at 9:30 a.m. on the subject of “controversies and collective mobilizations around livestock farming”, a first session will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on the question of the evolution of livestock farming, traceability, deforestation and the challenges of the hides and skins trade.
From 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, a second session will look at “French tanneries and hides looking to the future”.
From 2:00 to 2:45 p.m., in the third session, participants will ask “What’s the status of studies on the environmental footprint of leather?”.
From 2.45pm to 3.45pm, the fourth session will focus on a CSR benchmark for French leather goods.
From 4.15pm to 5.15pm, four Keynotes will address key issues linked to the use of plastics in fashion and sports: environment, innovation, recycling…
From 5.15pm to 5.45pm, the final session will look at the implementation of CSR in companies.
After the closing speech, from 5.45pm to 6pm, a gala dinner will be held for the first time in the Forum’s history.
For those who were unable to attend, or who would like to watch some of the speeches again, a hundred themed videos (Environment, Governance, Human Rights and Working Conditions, Fair Practices, Consumers) will be available for replay throughout the year.
