The Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix 2024 unveils its shortlist

The next edition of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GBHG) is fast approaching. Dedicated to rewarding the year’s best watchmaking creations, the GPHG Academy has shortlisted 90 watches from 273 entries.

The 24th edition of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GBHG) has its competitors. Dubbed the “Oscars of watchmaking”, the event has unveiled its shortlist. A total of 980 members of the GPHG Academy had to choose from among 273 timepieces entered in this year’s competition by 146 brands.

In the end,90 watches were selected. Divided into 15 categories, they are all in the running to win one of the 20 prizes for the year’s best watchmaking creations, including the prestigious Grand Prix de l’Aiguille d’Or.

Worldwide tour

Considered the world’s largest competition devoted to the watchmaking arts, the GPHG organizes an international tour every year. Thanks to a traveling exhibition, it is possible to discover the pre-selected timepieces and then the winners of the GPHG awards.

This year, the 90 pre-selected watches will be exhibited in Hong Kong from September 28 to 30 at Christie’s new headquarters in the heart of the Henderson Building, at the Saigon Opera House in Ho Chi Minh City from October 9 to 11, in partnership with The Hour Glass, in New York from October 18 to 21 at Watches of Switzerland, and finally in Geneva from October 30 to November 17 at the Musée Rath. Finally, the Bucharest University Library will host the winners after the awards ceremony, from November 21 to 23, on the initiative of MisterWatch Magazine.

These events will reinforce the influence of watchmaking culture around the world, with conferences, discussions, workshops and other public and private gatherings.

An exceptional selection

In order to highlight the specific expertise of each pre-selected timepiece, they are divided into different categories comprising 6 models. The GPHG thus rewards the best complications, the most iconic timepiece, the best chronograph or the most beautiful jewel-watch.

The list of brands taking part in the 2024 competition includes Breitling, Urwerk, Louis Vuitton, Piaget, Laurent Ferrier, ArtyA, De Bethune and many others.

However, we’ll have to wait until Wednesday November 13 to find out the 2024 winners. The 24th GPHG awards ceremony will be held at the Théâtre du Léman in Geneva and broadcast live on gphg.org.
