Tesla sold 33,155 Chinese-made vehicles in June

U.S. automaker Tesla sold 33,155 vehicles made in China, including those for export last month, the China Passenger Car Association announced.

Tesla makes the Model 3 sedans and Model Y sport utility vehicles in Shanghai. The group sold 28,138 cars made in China and exported 5,017 cars in June.

Tesla just launched Model Y cars with standard range in China. This production lowers the vehicle’s starting price to 276,000 yuan, or $42,588.

BYD, a battery manufacturer in China, meanwhile, sold 40,532 so-called new energy vehicles, which include battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, last month.

According to the CPCA, China sold 1.6 million passenger cars in June, down 5.3 percent from a year earlier.

As a reminder, Tesla sold 33,463 cars made in the country last May.
