Porsche plans to launch a two-wheel-drive version in 2021, with a slightly less powerful battery for its new Taycan S sports sedan. The price of this “entry-level” electric model? Less than 100,000 euros.

While the economic crisis linked to the coronavirus epidemic has slowed down all companies, the German brand continues to improve its range of electric cars.

Now available in 4S, Turbo and Turbo S versions, the German manufacturer’s electric range will soon be enriched by a more affordable model with two-wheel drive and a slightly less efficient battery: the Taycan S.

There will be entry-level models of the Taycan. There will be a rear-wheel drive model with a smaller battery to make it more affordable, especially for markets that don’t need 4WD – places like China, where weather conditions mean you don’t need it. “explains Michael Steiner, Head of R&D at Porsche.

As a result, this model will not be marketed everywhere, but only in certain markets, to reach a wider customer base.

As the price has not yet been announced, it is expected to be around 95,000 euros for this model. A relevant target for Porsche since Tesla, for its Model S (Grande Autonomie) is around 91,000 euros.

Thus, it remains to be seen what performance will be sacrificed to offer this more attractive price.

As a reminder, the Taycan 4S reaches 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds and a range of 400 kilometres thanks to its 79.2 kWh battery.
