According to a study by the specialist website money.co.uk, luxury packaging can make a lot of money when resold on the Internet. In order to carry out its analysis, the site compared the prices posted on the Ebay platform for empty packaging of luxury brands such as Chanel, Tiffany’s, Rolex, Louboutin and Chanel. But also strong brands like Nike and Diptyque.
According to the study, prices range from a few dozen to several hundred euros for an empty package.
It is clear that the primary role of packaging, which is to protect the product and provide information to the consumer, can evolve into that of a valuable and even collectible object.
The site has thus produced a ranking of the most profitable brands and types of packaging over time. And the top five places are occupied by luxury watch packaging. At the top of the podium: Rolex boxes, followed by Tag Heuer, Breitling, Omega and Seiko watch boxes.
The average price of a Rolex package is 180 euros, a Tag Heuer package 170 euros and a Breitling package 150 euros.
A different type of packaging is not found until the 6th place, and it is Louis Vuitton shoe boxes that occupy the place with a price of about 85 euros.
Gucci, Vuitton, Louboutin paper bags also sell very well, for just under 80 euros.
Surprisingly, the famous Tiffany & Co. jewellery boxes are only worth 59 euros.
Empty perfume bottles are also very popular, and financially advantageous. Indeed, there is a real market, especially when it comes to luxury perfumes such as J’Adore by Dior or Chanel n°5.
For example, if it is a perfume that is no longer produced or a rare format, the bottle can quickly be considered a collector’s item and fetch a minimum price of 50 euros.
The glass containers of the diptyque candles cost 58 euros, the price of a new candle from the Parisian perfume house.
