The Japanese cosmetics group Shiseido announced that Kentaro Fujiwara will take over as CEO of the company starting January 1, 2025. He succeeds Masahiko Uotani, who has held the position since 2014.
New change for the cosmetics group Shiseido. As of January 1, 2025, Kentaro Fujiwara will head the Japanese cosmetics and beauty products company.
He succeeds Masahiko Uotani, President and CEO of Shiseido since 2014.
Kentaro Fujiwara has been with the Japanese group for over 30 years. He started his career at Shiseido in 1991 before being appointed President of the Chinese subsidiary in 2017.
In January 2023, Kentaro Fujiwara was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer of the group. At the same time, the board of directors nominated him as a candidate for CEO in anticipation of Masahiko Uotani’s retirement.
It has been confirmed that Masahiko Uotani’s departure will not interfere with his position on Shiseido’s board of directors, where he will continue to serve as a senior advisor.
Leadership Changes
This appointment comes in a context where numerous organizational changes have already taken place at Shiseido in recent months. At the end of 2023, the group announced new appointments and several personnel transfers to follow.
In March 2023, Shiseido revised its strategy by appointing Alberto Noé as President and CEO of the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region.
He succeeded Franck Marilly, who, in turn, took on the newly created role of Chairman of the EMEA board. This reorganization seems to have been encouraged by the significant sales growth observed in these markets over the past year.
Another change, Ayako Hirofuji was appointed Deputy Chief Financial Officer on May 1, 2024, before being promoted to CEO on July 1, 2024.
