From June 14 to 17, Christie’s was selling Hubert de Givenchy’s personal collection, estimated at nearly 50 million euros, but the auction finally reached 114 million euros, more than double.

The auction house Christie’s sold last week nearly 800 lots from the personal collection of designer Hubert de Givenchy. Between furniture and classical and modern works of art, the sale totaled 114 million euros.

Buyers from all over the world participated in the auction, with 57% coming from Europe and the Middle East, 30% from the American continent, and 12% from Asia.

Part of the auction took place at the Marigny Theater and exceeded the organizers’ expectations. A mahogany desk by David Roentgen fetched over 2 million euros, quadrupling its low estimate.

But the absolute record is attributed to the sculpture signed Alberto Giacometti, “La Femme qui marche” found a new buyer for more than 27 million euros. It is the most expensive work sold at auction in France since the beginning of the year, a record for a work from the artist’s surrealist period.

25 lots sold for more than 1 million euros, while five pieces sold for more than 5 million euros, such as a painting by Joan Miró, “Le Passage de l’oiseau-migrateur” which sold for more than 6 million euros, a pair of girandoles from the end of the Louis XVI period attributed to Louis-Philippe Thomire, or a drawing by PicassoLe Faune à la lance“.

Online auctions continue until June 23, comprising 477 lots, including baroque mirrors, Louis XV armchairs. The centerpiece is expected to be a night valet signed Paul Dupré-Lafon whose current bidding is 22,000 euros.
