After being named Ray-Ban’s first creative director in February and winning the Fashion Icon Award at the 2025 CFDA Awards in November, A$ap Rocky has joined the Chanel team as an ambassador. The US hip hop star and husband of singer Rihanna becomes the second ambassador of the Matthieu Blazy era.
A few months after the appointment of American actress, comedian, screenwriter, and director Ayo Edebiri as the first muse of new creative director Matthieu Blazy, and just before the Chanel Métiers d’art show in New York City scheduled for December 2, A$AP Rocky is strengthening his status as a fashion icon like never before.
On the eve of his fourth studio album (Don’t Be Numb, scheduled for January 2026), the 37-year-old American rapper and singer-songwriter becomes one of Chanel’s new ambassadors.
In search of creative renewal, the House of Cambon could well capitalize on this newcomer to give itself a more urban image and perhaps even strengthen its menswear offering.
Fictional but viral marriage proposal
Alongside the announcement on November 29 that A$AP Rocky would be joining Chanel’s image team, the fashion house unveiled a mini promotional film. With its sights set on its Métiers d’Art show scheduled for December 2 in the hip-hop star’s hometown, the Parisian brand shot the various sequences in the heart of the Big Apple.
In this romantic three-minute short film, A$AP Rocky proposes to actress and model Margaret Qualley, the long-time face of Chanel (who first modeled for the camellia brand in 2011). Filmed in October by director and commercial filmmaker Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep, etc.), the scene sparked unprecedented buzz among internet users, sending his fan community (19.9 million followers on Instagram) into a frenzy.
It is public knowledge that the rapper has been the singer Rihanna’s high-profile partner for six years. In September, the father welcomed his third child, a daughter named Rocki Irish Mayers. He could not, therefore, be the suitor of Demi Moore’s younger understudy in the horror film The Substance.
“Fashion Killa” à la Pharell Williams
For more than a decade now, A$ap Rocky has been bridging the gap between music, fashion, and culture.
The performer of “Fashion Killa” and “F**kin’ Problem” was born and raised in Harlem. His sense of rhythm and diction earned him a place in the New York hip-hop collective A$AP Mob. This is where he got his stage name. In 2011, his first mixtape, Live. Love. A$AP, brought him into the spotlight.
At the same time, this multi-talented artist, like Pharrell Williams, stood out for his keen sense of style.
From his teenage years, the young man developed an urban and sophisticated wardrobe consisting of designer sneakers, Guess pieces inspired by Dapper Dan, and clothes found in a SoHo thrift store. It wasn’t long before he caught the attention of designers Rick Owens and Raf Simons, before wearing some of their outfits on a daily basis.
This urban dandy spirit caught the eye of major luxury brands eager for urbanity amid the streetwear craze. The rest is history: a wave of collaborations with Dior, Gucci, Moncler, Louboutin, and JW Anderson.
His musical talent and style led him to the 2012 MTV Video Awards at the age of 24, where he met singer Rihanna for the first time during rehearsals. However, it took seven years before A$AP Rocky and the Barbadian singer gradually took the plunge into a relationship. In the meantime, as Rihanna told Interview, they fed off each other’s style: “I wore his designs, he came to my launches.” In 2020 and 2022, the couple reinvented the pregnancy announcement with their first two children, RZA and Riot.
Last February, the rapper made history again by becoming Ray-Ban’s first-ever creative director, and in November, he won the title of Fashion Icon at the 2025 CFDA Awards, the Oscars of American fashion. He was also co-chair of the 2025 Met Gala.
