Porsche expects another record year for sales

Despite the chip shortage, the German luxury carmaker did very well in 2021 and is optimistically looking ahead to 2022.

Luxury carmaker Porsche AG expects another record year for sales despite the global shortage of semiconductor chips, its sales chief told industry magazine Automobilwoche.

When I look at the current orders, I am confident for 2022. Sales growth could be as high this year as in 2021,” said Detlev von Platen, a member of Porsche’s Board of Management.

The automaker, which is part of Volkswagen, increased sales by 11 percent last year to 301,915 units, which means it could exceed 335,000 units this year if growth continues at the same pace.

Van Platen said Porsche wants to hire 400 more workers, adding to its 40,000 employees. “Waiting times can be several months, in some cases up to a year,” he added. Indeed, automakers around the world have been hit by a shortage of semiconductors caused by supply chain disruptions.
