Porsche is to test a converter that would increase the range of their electric cars. A team of researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute has been working on the converter.

Despite the development of the electric car, the short range of cars is still a problem. All car brands are therefore looking for ways to improve the performance of these batteries.

Thanks to silicon carbide and 3D printing, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute have succeeded in improving cooling and reducing energy dissipation. They claim that this prototype could improve the range of electric cars by 6%. This is the innovation that Porsche is planning to test with a new powertrain.

The converter has a major role: to convert direct current into alternating current, between the electric motor and the battery.

The Fraunhofer Institute first plans to test the converter with Bosch in the coming months. In a second phase, Porsche will test the converter in a new powertrain.

This prototype could be the start of a new era for electric vehicles.
