The Paris police prefecture, following a government decision preventing shopping malls of more than 40,000 square meters from reopening in Ile-de-France, has decided on Wednesday, May 13, to maintain Galeries Lafayette and Printemps closed until July 10th. This date also corresponds to the extension of the state of health emergency, promulgated by Parliament on May 11.
This decision, announced by the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, on 7 May, after Prime Minister Edouard Philippe’s speech, is intended to prevent the risk of the epidemic crisis spreading throughout the Paris region, which is classified as “red”.
To this end, other orders have been issued involving other shopping centres in the capital and its region, such as the Beaugrenelle centre.
In a press release, the UNSA union of Printemps, which agrees with these decrees, admits “to be concerned about the consequences of this measure for employment in small and medium-sized commercial enterprises, for which the Department Stores on Boulevard Haussmann are an essential vector in their development“.
The union announces that it is now entering into discussions with the management of Printemps and the social partners of the GSC and the GCTC “to set up local Covid-19 commissions” in order to adapt its operations to the evolution of the epidemic.
