For 2022, the GMC Sierra is getting its share of new features, just as it did in 2019. A refreshed design, a more refined interior and two new variants are what’s in store for General Motors’ pickup next year.
The most visible changes to the GMC Sierra will be to the design and interior of the vehicle. The grille, bumper and headlights have been slightly modified by GMC, while the rear end will see very little change. Three new body colours will be added: Titanium Rush Metallic, Dynamic Blue Metallic and Desert Sand Metallic.
The interior, on the other hand, will undergo a number of changes. Remember that these were the main criticisms levelled at the vehicle during its last redesign. For 2022, the GMC Sierra will ditch the traditional for a more modern look, with a fully digital and customizable instrument cluster.
The same will be true of the multimedia interface, which will benefit from a larger, 13.4-inch screen, now compatible with Android. The new system will also include Google Maps and Google Assistant.
In addition to the screens, the design of the dashboard and the quality of the materials used have been completely revised. The control station is now much more sophisticated and attractive, while in the top-of-the-range versions real wood will be used for the dashboard and door interior finishes. The leather seats have been redesigned to be even more comfortable.
Finally, one of the other major new features is the integration of the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, a first for a GMC pickup. This system not only allows for lane changes without driver involvement, but can also be activated when towing.
The GMC Sierra 2022 is scheduled to go on sale early next year. However, the shortage of semiconductors could disrupt this schedule.
