Le constructeur français de voiture de luxe Bugatti vient de dévoiler son tout nouveau projet d’hyper sportive de circuit ultra-légère : le Bolide Bugatti.
The French brand has chosen to invest particularly in the technological aspect of its brand new circuit car by developing a vehicle featuring the brand’s centerpiece, which is found on the Bugatti Veyron and some production vehicles: the 1,850-horsepower W16 engine.
The Bolide Bugatti was designed in the era of time with a very minimalist and authentic bodywork. Its engine categorizes it directly among the hypersportive track racers and ensures its driver an undeniably high level of performance.
Bugatti has bet on everything by combining engine power, vehicle lightness and handling. This extreme vehicle promises a unique speed thanks to its W16 engine and a very pleasant and easy ride despite its weight of only 1,240 kilograms, providing aerodynamic support during its drive.
“We asked ourselves how we could represent the powerful W16 engine in its purest form as the technical symbol of the brand […] What was important in our thinking was to take advantage of our iconic powertrain without any power-to-weight limitations. The Bolide Bugatti was born out of this thinking. An uncompromising experience, a thoroughbred that, in its raw exclusivity, convinces above all by its high performance, low weight and a driving experience in new dimensions. Riding the Bolide is like riding a cannonball. »
The French manufacturer has designed a vehicle that can go at very high revs thanks to its gearbox and engine, reaching almost Formula 1 levels. In addition, the Bolide Bugatti offers a modification to the installation of the intake and exhaust system to increase the responsiveness of the vehicle and keep its handling throughout the race at an extreme level. An air-cooling system and a water precooling system have been installed inside the vehicle to further maximize its power.
If the Bolide Bugatti can push its speed to over 500 km/h, it is due to the materials it is made of. Extensive research was carried out to make the vehicle as light as possible, while maximizing its power, and titanium was chosen to design all of the vehicle’s bolts and connections. Titanium is also used in the aeronautics and aerospace industries for its extremely thin and resistant walls.
“The Bolide was one of the most ambitious projects of my career from both a technological and organizational point of view” said Frank Götzke, Engineer and Head of New Technologies at Bugatti. After working with Bugatti on the Veyron 16.4 and the Chiron, Frank Götzke is now building a vehicle that has never been seen before at Bugatti, based on the company’s iconic W16 engine.
