The exhibition “200 trunks, 200 visionaries”, which began its journey in Asnières, continues its journey and is currently being held in Singapore.
For this exhibition honouring the founder of Louis Vuitton, the house has brought together 200 modern visionaries in a creative initiative that pays tribute to Vuitton’s flagship product, first developed in the 1850s: the trunk. The exhibition, entitled 200 Trunks 200 Visionaries : The Exhibition, is currently on display at the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza in Singapore.
The contributors to the exhibition come from a wide range of backgrounds : artists such as Jean-Michel Othoniel and Stephen Sprouse, architects Frank Gehry and Peter Marino, global consumer brands such as Supreme and Lego, as well as the Korean boyband BTS and Paralympic swimmer Theo Curin. Each of them received a box measuring 50 cm x 50 cm x 100 cm representing a metaphorical blank canvas, to be modulated as they wished.
Benoit-Louis Vuitton, the brand’s sixth-generation descendant, stressed that while the house looks back to the extraordinary life of its founder, it is keen to tap into the modern cultural capital and most advanced technologies of our time. “At Louis Vuitton, we are a blend of history and tradition, innovation and modernity. We are always curious and we always want to explore and remain innovative,” he explains.
Benoit-Louis, who has been involved in the design stages of the exhibition since the beginning of its world tour at the Louis Vuitton family home and workshop in Asnières, travelled to the city this week to visit the Singapore iteration, and said he was always intrigued. “It was interesting to visit the exhibition again and again, and to see and discover new aspects of each piece every day. (…) All of them are wonderful, because they all express and reflect something special“.
Free exhibition to follow until 27 April 2022.
