Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping returns to the Champ-de-Mars in Paris from June 23 to 25. These three days of competition will offer a world-class show, with the presence of many stars of equestrian sport.

A major equestrian sporting event returns to Paris. From June 23 to 25, the world’s best riders will gather on the Place Jacques Rueff, located on the Champ-de-Mars, to take part in a high-level competition, the Longines Global Champions Tour – Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping.

This 9th edition of the Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping, the 8th stop on the circuit, will feature six riders from the world’s top 15, including Olympic and world medalists. Four former winners of the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix, sponsored by the City of Paris, will be present in the hope of achieving a remarkable performance at this Parisian event.

Among them will be world number 2 and current top French rider Julien Épaillard, as well as Christian Ahlmann, one of the big names on the German team. Britain’s Ben Maher, reigning Olympic champion and ranked 13th in the world, and Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli, ranked 10th in the world, complete the list. These four riders, winners in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022 respectively, will all be aiming for a second victory in this prestigious competition.

Strong competition

They face stiff competition from other show jumping stars from around the world. Among them are Germans Daniel Deusser, Philipp Weishaupt and Lugder Beerbaum, nicknamed the “Kaiser”, as well as Christian Kukuk, currently number two in the Longines Global Champions Tour rankings. Brazil’s Yuri Mansur, Britain’s Scott Brash, Lily Atwwod, Jodie Hall McAteer and Harry Charles, ranked 22nd in the world, as well as legend John Whitaker will also be present. The Belgians will be fielding three of the four riders on the 2021 European champion team (Rotterdam): Grégory Wathelet, Jos Verlooy and Jérôme Guery. Nicola Philippaerts, who scored a major victory last weekend at the Grand Saut de la Baule, will also be in the line-up. The USA will be able to count on experienced riders such as Jessica Springsteen, Kent Farington, ranked 11th in the world, and Laura Kraut, ranked 18th in the world and best woman in the current world rankings. Spencer Smith will strengthen the American delegation.

Other participants include multiple medallist Peder Fredricson from Sweden, regular Israeli Daniel Bluman, ranked 14th in the world, Australian Edwina Tops-Alexander, recent winner of the Madrid Grand Prix, and Dutchman Eric van der Vle.

The French in attendance

Numerous French representatives will be present. Edward Levy will be looking to shine on home soil, as will Simon Delestre (N°7), who placed 3rd in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix de Ramatuelle – St Tropez. Roger-Yves Bost, Alexa Ferrer and Julien Anquetin, who put in a superb performance at last weekend’s Grand Prix de Cannes, will also be in the running. The young and very promising Nina Mallevaey and the ambassador of the 2023 edition, Pénélope Leprévost, will also be lining up their best horses from June 23 to 25.

A varied program

Another highlight of the event is the International Jumping Competition (CSI), graded from 1 to 5 “*” (stars) according to its level of difficulty. This year’s CSI1* competition will be no exception in terms of stars. Renowned for their talent on the track or through their performances on screen, all will have their chance. The ambassador Eden Leprévost Blin Lebreton, who excels up to CSI3* level, the actor and distinguished rider Guillaume Canet, as well as the promising rider Mathilde Pinault and the loyal British rider Tess Carmichael will all be taking part.

No fewer than 14 events are on the program, including the Global Champion League, with two team heats at heights of 1.55 m and 1.60 m, on Friday, and the prestigious Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix presented by the City of Paris on Saturday, with a height of 1.60 m in the CSI5*. On Sunday, the sporting action continues with the Saint Laurent Eiffel Challenge, featuring a 1.55 m jump-off in the CSI5*, followed by the Saint Laurent Challenge, the CSI1* Grand Prix at 1.40 m.

Each evening, after the competitions, the sports arena will be transformed into a breathtaking spectacle with performances by the Horsemen, Jess Drent and Alizée Froment, both of whom will present free-roaming dressage acts. A further opportunity to delight the already magical atmosphere of the Parisian competition.
