On Monday November 18, the Kering Group appointed Cédric Charbit as CEO of Maison Saint Laurent. For his part, Gianfranco Gianangeli is to succeed him at Balenciaga as the new CEO.
From Balenciaga to Saint Laurent… and vice versa
Following LVMH’s managerial aggiornamento in its wines & spirits and human resources divisions, and while awaiting a new artistic director at Chanel, the Kering group has chosen to renew the management of Saint Laurent, its second flagship after Gucci, now caught up by the slowdown in luxury sales just like the Italian House. To this end, the Number Two in the global luxury goods industry has chosen an internal talent from one of its Houses: the current CEO of Balenciaga, Cédric Charbit. He replaces Francesca Bellettini.
For his part, Gianfranco Gianangeli, a Saint Laurent defector, inherits the position of CEO of Balenciaga, Kering’s third-largest sales contributor.
Both executives will report to Francesca Bellettini, Kering’s deputy CEO in charge of brand development, who is now fully dedicated to the development of all Kering fashion, leather goods and jewelry houses. The new CEOs of Saint Laurent and Balenciaga will take office on January 2, 2025.
Boomerang employee at Saint Laurent
Cédric Charbit’s appointment as head of Saint Laurent is in keeping with the trend of boomerang employees – in other words, former employees returning to work for a former employer – observed recently at DFS Group and Nike. In the past, Cédric Charbit held the position of Executive Vice President Product and Marketing before joining Balenciaga.
