Jean-Claude Biver and his son Pierre, the eponymous founders of the young Swiss watchmaking company, call on James Marks to take over the reins. The financier and industry expert will retain a consulting role with Phillips Auction House, where he has worked for the past six years.
Founded in 2023 by Jean-Claude Biver – the emblematic leader behind the resurrection of Blancpain, Hublot and Tag Heuer – and his son Pierre, the Biver watch brand is consolidating its management and its future, with the appointment of a CEO from the outside.
James Marks, who has been Deputy Chairman Watches at Phillips auction house since 2018 , is the “providential” man. What’s original is that he will be wearing two hats, while retaining a consultancy role with his previous employer.
At Phillips, as vice-president of the watch division and international director, he supervised Perpetual, the second-hand boutiques. He crossed paths with Pierre Biver, who worked in the network’s first unit in London.
A long-standing friend
But James Marks was also already “a long-standing friend of the Biver family”, the Swiss Maison emphasized in a press release.
