British luxury hotel brand InterContinental is to open its first establishment in Indianapolis, the capital of Indiana, in a historic building that is the subject of an ambitious restoration project.
While China’s position as a luxury market is waning, the United States is of growing interest to players in the sector. Including those in the hospitality sector.
The forthcoming opening of an InterContinental hotel in Indianapolis this winter illustrates this phenomenon.
Indeed, it had been almost two decades since the capital of Indiana, known for its famous speed ring hosting renowned motor racing events, had opened a high-end hotel. In 2017, however, L’Ironworks Hotel Indy became the very first boutique hotel in the city, considered such a mecca for business conventions in the USA that Hilton plans to roll out its business customer-oriented brand, Signia by Hilton Hotel, there by 2026.
Until now, Indiana has been considered a “fly-over state ” (generally rural, with little cultural interest) along with Iowa and Idaho, and was not of strategic interest to the sector.
A hotel that won’t go unnoticed
The latest addition to the InterContinental brand, owned by the British hotel group InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), will not go unnoticed.
