The 36th edition of the International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories was held from October 14 to 17, 2021 at the Villa Noailles in Hyères. Take a look back at the event.
Since 1986, the Hyères Festival has been promoting and supporting young international fashion design. For 24 years now, the festival has hosted a competition open to emerging photographers and for the 4th time this year, the competition also honors new fashion accessory designers.
The fashion jury was chaired this year by Louise Trotter, artistic director of Lacoste. It met at the Villa Noailles, Hyères, on April 6, 2021 to choose the ten finalists of the competition (nearly 250 applications were received from 60 nationalities).
The jury selected ten young fashion designers of 7 different nationalities. The collections will also be shown in a group exhibition at the Villa Noailles until the end of January 2022.
In the Fashion category, the Première Vision Jury’s Grand Prize was awarded to Ifeanyi Okwuadi, who received a 20,000-euro design grant from Première Vision and will benefit from visibility at the Paris show next September, as well as a collaborative project with CHANEL’s Métiers d’art. The 27-year-old British designer presented a young and casual collection, entitled “Take the toys from the boys“, using the codes of the men’s suit. Made with Scottish tweeds with scoubidou ornaments or buttons in the shape of small cars, this collection shakes up the codes.
The Chloé Prize goes to Elina Silina, who also receives a 20,000 euro design grant. The Chanel 19M Métiers d’Arts Prize was awarded to Rukpong Raimaturapong, who received a 20,000 euro grant to create a new project, which will be unveiled at the 37th edition of the festival. The Mercedes Benz Eco-Responsible Collection Award went to Sofia Ilmonen, who also received a 20,000 euro grant from the brand. The public prize of the city of Hyères was awarded to Adeline Rappaz.
The fashion accessories jury is chaired this year by Christian Louboutin and has awarded this year’s Grand Prix of the fashion accessories jury, Capucine Huguet. This French artist has passed through Central Saint Martins in London and presents a collection “Wahlenbergbreen Mementos” motivated by his environmental commitment and marked by a trip to the middle of the Arctic. These creations are adorned with flakes and cracks due to erosion and climate change. She was awarded 20,000 euros to create a project in collaboration with Chanel Métiers d’Art.
The Hermès Prize was awarded to Yann Tosser-Roussey, for the creation of a pair of gloves. The Public Prize of the city of Hyères was awarded to Rayna Amuro.
Finally, in the photography category, the Grand Prize of the Photography Jury was received by Emma Charrin and Olivier Muller, who were awarded 20,000 euros by Chanel. The American Vintage Photography Prize goes to Sergei Pavlov, also winner of the Public Prize of the city of Hyères.
