It is in Hiroshima, Japan, that the last G7 summit is held since last Friday. Between war in Ukraine and support to China, discover the report of this world summit.

On Friday, the summit began with a tribute to the victims of the bomb that leveled the entire city of Hiroshima in 1945, followed by initial discussions among G7 leaders.

Saturday was the most important day, during which the leaders began the bulk of the discussions.

Zelensky at the center of all discussions

After a tour of Europe, Volodymyr Zelensky landed in Hiroshima in the middle of the afternoon on a French plane. Handling social networks extensively, the Ukrainian president tweeted shortly after his arrival, stating that this Summit should bring peace closer.

He first met with Emmanuel Macron in a bilateral discussion. The French president said that the presence of his Ukrainian counterpart in Japan could be a game changer for Ukraine.

For his part, Joe Biden told the G7 leaders that he would endorse the delivery of combat aircraft to Ukraine, including F-16s. This decision will help the Ukrainian forces to fill a lack of air assets, while benefiting from a versatile fleet.

With his visit, Mr. Zelensky intends to bring a maximum number of countries to his cause, including emerging countries like India. He had a one-on-one meeting with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, who promised to do “everything possible” to resolve the conflict.

Various relations with China

The other important point of this G7 summit was the relationship of the various states with China. It is difficult to start a common discussion, when we know that not all G7 countries have the same relationship with this country. Some, like the United States, seem to be on the fence, while others, on the European side, insist on avoiding any climate of tension with the Asian giant.

The final result is in between: “We are ready to build a constructive and stable relationship with China,” the leaders say together.

Indeed, the international summit called for dialogue, given the importance of this country, but also in the name of issues such as global warming or biodiversity.

A common discourse, but different demands

The G7 or Group of 7 is a discussion and economic partnership group that brings together each year the seven most industrialized countries in the world. After joint exchanges, the seven powers have thus exposed in turn their desires for change.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Melonia has expressed her concerns about Tunisia. The largest country in Africa being the closest by sea to Italy, the Italian nationalist leader fears that a collapse of the Tunisian economy would cause an explosion of migrant departures. She therefore called on the IMF (International Monetary Fund) to adopt a new and “pragmatic” approach to release funding to Tunisia, without preconditions.

The leaders of the G7 countries also announced the establishment of a future working group on artificial intelligence, to conduct discussions on a “responsible use” of these new tools and the risks they represent.
