On Tuesday 5 April 2022, the President of the French Leather Council (Conseil National du Cuir) Frank Boehly had the honor of receiving the Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite medal awarded by Guillaume de Seynes at 64 Cléry in Paris.

“This medal rewards a man and a career rich in work and humanity, a professional career recognised in the world of footwear and leather. A man at the service of the collective who has been the voice of the industry in many years of trade union activities. A man committed to serving the community who for nearly fifteen years worked as an elected official in Orgeval. Through your career, we celebrate the values of work, conviction, responsibility, courage, tenacity and passion that drive you. We also celebrate your qualities of enthusiasm, optimism, humour and frankness. Above all, we celebrate a man who serves others, a man whose commitments are long term, a man of conviction and value”, said Guillaume de Seynes, Patron of Frank Boehly and CEO of Hermès.

A former student in Marseille and top of his class, Frank Boehly has always been driven by this notion of excellence, a taste for others and a sense of communication in everything he has undertaken throughout his career. Frank Boehly entered the world of footwear and leather in 1977 and spent fifteen years as a shoe retailer before becoming Sales Director of the Labelle Group’s distribution subsidiary between 1995 and 1999. In 1999, he was appointed President of France and Belgium of the European retailer specialising in shoes, leather goods and accessories, Salamander. In 2020, Frank Boehly became the head of the business incubator for the leather industry, ADC Au-Delà du Cuir, and since 2014 he has been the President of the French Leather Council. For the past eight years, Frank Boehly has represented 21 federations in the leather industry.

“I must admit that I am very proud to receive this decoration. I am very happy that this ceremony is taking place at 64 Cléry, an emblematic place for the leather industry and all its partners. This place, which was acquired and moved in to accommodate the ADC company, is a showroom, coworking space, seminars, exhibitions, and ephemeral shops for the actors of the leather and fashion industry. Looking back on my career, I have been very lucky and indeed successful in almost all my activities”, said Frank Boehly.

It should be remembered that the National Order of Merit was instituted on 3 December 1963 by General de Gaulle. After the Legion of Honor, the Medal of the National Order of Merit is the second national order to honour and reward French citizens. The National Order of Merit is composed of knights, officers, commanders, then grand officers and grand crosses.
