Coty has just announced the launch of the Gucci Beauty boutique on the Tmall Luxury Pavilion, Alibaba’s platform dedicated to luxury and premium brands.
The launch of the shop continues a collaboration that began in December 2020 with the inauguration of Gucci’s first flagship shop dedicated to its fashion collections on the luxury pavilion of the e-commerce platform.
“As Chinese consumers seek to engage with iconic brands such as Gucci and Gucci Beauty, they expect a sophisticated and seamless digital experience. Following Gucci’s successful launch in the small luxury pavilion, we are delighted to work with Gucci Beauty to further enhance their engagement and success in China,” said Michael Evans, President of Alibaba Group.
With the opening of this digital shop, Gucci Beauty products will be unveiled to more than 770 million Chinese consumers on the Tmall platform. Consumers will have the opportunity to discover and purchase items from Gucci Beauty’s full range of make-up and fragrances.
“Coty’s retail sales of premium cosmetics and skincare in China grew by more than 40% in the last quarter, with Gucci Beauty posting double-digit sales growth there last year. The Tmall luxury pavilion is an exceptional platform that allows us to take advantage of this recent excellent performance. In our flagship store, we look forward to continuing to engage our Chinese consumers, who are so passionate about beauty and iconic brands like Gucci, ”said Sue Y. Nabi, General Manager of Coty.
The range includes flagship products such as Matte Lipstick and Natural Matte Beauty Powder. This combination will initially enable Gucci to continue its conquest of the Chinese luxury market while offering consumers an exceptional experience and a trusted shopping environment.
“Thanks to a close strategic collaboration with our partner Coty, we are now able to offer consumers at the Tmall Luxury Pavilion privileged access to Gucci’s entire universe, from fashion collections to beauty products, thus complementing the powerful digital ecosystem we have built up over the last few years,” said Marco Bizzarri, Chief Executive Officer and President of Gucci.
Coty’s Managing Director for China, Guilhem Souche, also commented, “2021 is an incredibly important year for Gucci Beauty in China and we have extremely ambitious plans to develop the brand and support the luxury market. In addition to our leading position in fragrances and an iconic lipstick collection, we recently launched the brand’s first foundation to offer a range of shades relevant to the Chinese consumer – a product we really hope to resonate with this audience. Now, with the launch of our own shop on Tmall, we are adding to our already strong footprint in the market, making it faster, easier and more secure for Chinese consumers to engage with the brand, experience a unique Gucci Beauty experience and enjoy these exceptional products ” .
The success of the platform has grown considerably in recent years, especially in the last year thanks to the indispensable growth drivers that have become digital and the Asian market. Luxury brands no longer have to worry about their image and the threat of counterfeits.
Alibaba also provides its partner brands with information from its consumer base, enabling them to determine their future commitments.
Gucci thus fully joins more than 200 brands already present on the platform.
