Donald Trump threatens champagne with a 200% customs tax

The American President wants to impose a 200% tax on American imports of champagne, wine and other spirits from the European Union if the EU does not “immediately” withdraw its new 50% customs tariffs on American whiskey.

 

Donald Trump definitely seems to be immune to all the rules of diplomacy.

 

The presence on January 20 of several representatives of the Arnault family, patriarch Bernard first and foremost, at the swearing-in of the new president of Uncle Sam might have led one to believe that LVMH would be relatively spared by the “American friend”.

 

But business is business, and friendship clearly has no place in it.

On Thursday, Donald Trump made a threat that does not spare the world’s number one luxury brand.
