After the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, a new luxury train is coming to Italy, the Treno della Dolce Vita. This new high-end rail service will include 10 routes and cover 128 cities.
In Italy, a new service will compete with the famous Venice Simplon-Orient-Express: the Treno della Dolce Vita (in French, le train de la Dolce Vita), a series of high-end sleeper trains whose ten lines will serve 128 Italian cities over 16,000 kilometers.
The new service will be launched in 2023, and plans are already underway. The Dolce Vita train will pass through 14 regions, and among the destinations covered are some of the most popular with tourists.
These include the Val d’Orcia in Tuscany, the Dolomites, as well as the Basilicata coast and the Sila mountains in Calabria and Matera, the location of the James Bond movie, “No Time to Die“.
When the project was announced, a test run was made from Rome to Civitavecchia in a period atmosphere. The dishes were prepared by the starred chef Carlo Cracco. The aim of the Dolce Vita train is to recreate the atmosphere and aesthetics of the golden age of railroads.
The Dolce Vita train project is being driven by the Trenitalia division of Italy’s state-owned railway company Ferrovie dello Stato and the luxury hotel company Arsenale SpA, which is behind Rome’s Soho House and Venice’s Rosewood, which are currently under construction.
“Tourism is not just about hotels and restaurants,” Paolo Barletta, CEO of Arsenale SpA, told CNN. “Italy is a 360-degree experience and we have to start from that experience to make a complete offer.”
The Dolce Vita train will storm Italy’s railroad tracks starting in 2023, and will accommodate up to 64 people in 32 cabins, including 12 deluxe cabins and 20 suites. The retro decoration was designed by some of the most famous Italian designers, such as Gio Ponti, Carlo Scarpa and Piero Fornasetti.
