After Marrakech and Milan for the 2020 and 2021 editions, Dior takes us to Athens, Greece, for its Cruise 2022 show.
On the evening of June 17th, Dior unveiled its 2022 Cruise collection; a show that was digitally transmitted on the luxury house’s website. The show took place in the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, a typical ancient stadium that hosted the first Olympic Games.
“This symbolic place offers an exceptional setting that resonates perfectly with the inspirations of this Dior collection, combining the power of heritage and contemporary inventiveness” , says Dior.

Models dressed in Dior walked the runway to the rhythm of a live concert by the National Orchestra of Athens and the voice of Ioanna Gika. “I want to showcase the beauty of the country” , said Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s creative director, in an interview with Vogue.
Yet the destination was not chosen at random. The show took on a certain symbolic dimension, as it took place 70 years after Christian Dior first came to the Greek capital. Indeed, in 1951, a mythical photo session, orchestrated by Jean-Pierre Pedrazzini, took place in the same city.
A look back at the highlights of the show: What trends were observed?
First of all, one colour stood out from the others by its important presence: white. Indeed, a large number of pieces in the Cruise 2022 collection were created using only white fabrics.
Also, as a reminder of the emblematic Greek colours, electric blue was also present on some of the outfits in the collection.
If Maria Grazia Chiuri wanted to pay homage to this country, she inserted references to ancient Greek dress into this haute-couture line.
Indeed, the peplum, a tunic worn by women in ancient Greece, has been reworked to suit the times. Like a contemporary goddess, this garment embodies elegance, freedom and femininity; the iconic piece of the 2022 Cruise collection.
In another homage to Greek culture, some models wore armour. A reference to the gladiators of the ancient world, reinterpreted for today’s women.
At the other end of the spectrum, sportswear outfits were also in the spotlight https://brasil-libido.com/. From cycling shorts to immaculate sneakers, the sportswear seemed to resonate perfectly with the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens.
Finally, far from parading in heels, the models almost all wore sneakers or boots with flat heels.
Synonymous with comfort, it seems that Maria Grazia Chiuri wanted her new collection to be light and comfortable to wear. She also worked with local workshops and artisans for this collection, in order to bring out the ancestral Greek traditions.
A Cruise 2022 collection that resonates perfectly with both the values of the haute-couture house and the country in which the show took place.
