Few people are as popular in fashion as Diane von Furstenberg, and few retain such attractiveness. Jeff Bezos, Seth Meyers, Christian Louboutin and Jonathan Newhouse attended the Quai d’Orsay for the presentation of his Legion of Honor from the hands of Christine Lagarde. Plus two Elkann (John and Lapo), a duo of Arnault (Delphine and Antoine) and a flock of younger friends ranging from Julie de Libran to influencer Caroline Daur.

In her speech, Christine Lagarde praised the unique career of DVF: the creation of the wrap dress, her role as President of the CFDA and that which she played in the renovation of the Statue of Liberty.

“You have also experienced difficult moments along the way, as happens with women who have responsibilities, but you have drawn the strength to start again […] in a life course characterized by the determination to continue, and to maintain the course in difficult times, “said Christine Lagarde, with her steel look, dressed in a purple pantsuit created by DVF.

“You are one of the most generous people in this funny fashion world, which I don’t know much about. But to support the struggles of women, the elegance that matters most is that of the heart, “she added, stressing that the” wonderful foundation “of DVF has supported figures in the struggle for Human rights as diverse as Anita Hill or Jane Goodall, the primate specialist.

In response, DVF reminded everyone why Christine Lagarde is so famous for her class, from the first words. “The honor of receiving [this distinction] from [you] is as great as the honor itself,” she said with applause.

“Your talent for leadership is exceptional, your trajectory incredible. First female finance minister in a G7 country. First woman to head the IMF […] Former member of the French synchronized swimming team, and synchronization proved to be very useful during the 2008 financial crisis. Mother of two, and partner of a very man sexy! She developed, raising the laughter.”

Moving on to praise Paris, beckoning to the window overlooking the Seine, she continued: “Paris is a city of women, a city of elegance, a city where you want to go to the cafe and bookstores, to have… secret adventures ”, she added with thunderous applause.

She was on a sailboat last summer, said Diane von Furstenberg, when she received a letter from French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian informing her of the award when she finished reading a biography of Napoleon in four volumes.

“It was Napoleon who created this award in 1802, in recognition of those who had fought for civil rights or displayed military courage. And I’ve never been very military connected, “said DVF.
