The sixth edition of the “Choose France” Summit, which is being held this Monday, May 15, in Versailles, is an opportunity for the President of the Republic to talk about France’s leading position in Europe in terms of attractiveness to foreign companies, with a record number of investments in 2022 and another one on the horizon in 2023.

His trip today to the sixth edition of the “Choose France” Summit at the Château de Versailles is an opportunity for Emmanuel Macron to make a very positive statement after some difficult months.

The President of the Republic, who will be attending the Summit this afternoon, which will end with a working dinner, will be able to boast of very flattering data in front of the 400 guests, including more than 200 leaders of major foreign groups gathered for the occasion.

Historic record

In fact, France broke a “historic record” in 2022, being “the most attractive country in Europe with 1,259 new investment projects identified (+3% compared to 2021),” said the Elysée, which sees the result of “a proactive economic policy of attractiveness and reindustrialization conducted by the President of the Republic since 2017″.  Another argument is that EY has placed France at the top of the European podium in terms of attractiveness for the fourth year in a row.

France is already home to 16,800 foreign companies. And it is still opening its doors wide. The French government is counting on the Green Industry bill (including an acceleration of authorization procedures for establishing industrial sites), presented to the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, May 16, to further boost the arrival of international industrialists.

The May 15 Summit, under the theme “investing for a sustainable future,” will be an opportunity for new investment and job creation announcements throughout the country.”

13 billion euros

Emmanuel Macron will unveil 28 new investment projects for a new record total of 13 billion euros, planned for 2023, with 8,000 jobs created in the fields of technology, health, food processing, logistics … Among them is a strong symbolic establishment, a production plant for photovoltaic panels in Sarreguemines, Moselle, which should start in 2025, with 1,700 jobs, for an investment of 700 million euros. The project is being carried out by Holosolis, an offshoot of the European group InnoEnergy, a driving force for innovation in the sustainable energy sector on the old continent, whose shareholders include the German group Siemens, several universities, and the French Atomic Energy Commission (AEC).

The Choose Summit is also an opportunity for Emmanuel Macron to promote the assets of the country he presides over in front of major investors such as Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al-Mahmoud, the CEO of the Qatar Investment Authority or Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia. The President will also address the heads of multinationals who have come to the event. Half will come from Europe, 15% from Asia, and 20% from North America, such as Robert Iger, CEO of the Walt Disney Group).

But Emmanuel Macron also devoted his morning on May 15 to the Mega Star of entrepreneurship: Elon Musk, the boss of SpaceX, Tesla, and Twitter. Together they discussed “the attractiveness of France and its industries.” But this was at the Elysée Palace and not in Versailles. When you’re on a first-name basis with the stars, it’s hard to share the spotlight.
