Swiss watchmaker Bucherer has acquired Klarlund for an undisclosed amount. This acquisition will take effect from January 4, 2023.
Founded in 1947 by a Danish watchmaker, Klarlund quickly established itself as the company of choice for watch enthusiasts, collectors and jewelry lovers in Denmark. A few years later, the family business became the first official Rolex retailer in the country.
Klarlund currently operates two stores and a total of over 70 employees. The retailer also runs the largest certified service workshop in the Nordic countries, where watchmakers perform service and repairs for all brands sold.
The acquisition expands Bucherer’s market share in Denmark and gives it access to new customers in addition to those at its existing boutique in the Illum department store in Copenhagen.
“This acquisition is part of our strategy to further strengthen our presence in Denmark, and to follow up on our market entry in 2016 with our first boutique located at the Illum department store,” said Guido Zumbühl, CEO of the Bucherer Group.
The Swiss watch company has 38 exclusive locations across Europe: 16 sales boutiques in Switzerland, 13 in Germany, one in Vienna, a flagship in Paris and six more in London.
In January 2018, the Lucerne-based company acquired the American luxury watch distributor, Tourneau and then its compatriot specializing in watch and jewelry sales, Leeds & Son, in October 2022. The Swiss family business now has more than 2,000 employees.
