The British manufacturer Bentley is taking up the challenge of making all of its sports vehicles 100% electric by 2030, and plans to release its very first electric model by 2025.
The automotive giants are aware of the environmental challenges facing the planet, and in particular the dangers that their combustion engine vehicles will cause in the long term.
Little by little, automobile brands have begun to release their first plug-in hybrid cars as well as 100% electric models, which are still too few on the market.
The world’s automotive powers have not yet reached the milestone of transforming all their vehicles to electric power, and they are still projecting this change today for 2030 to 2040.
Adrian Hallmark, CEO of the Bentley Group, leads the industry by announcing this new initiative: “Since 1919, Bentley has been defining luxury. Being at the forefront of progress is part of our DNA. The creators of Bentley were pioneers and leaders. We will continue to lead the way as we reinvent the company and become the global benchmark for luxury cars.”
The subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group has its production facilities in Crewe, England, which benefit from an advantageous environment for this transition. Bentley has installed no fewer than 30,000 solar panels on all of its buildings, surrounded by a planted forest. This investment in solar panels has enabled the English manufacturer to become officially carbon neutral throughout its site, a major step for the company, which is ready to make a complete change.
According to its outlook, the luxury carmaker plans to release its very first electric model in 2025. The next step for it is to have only plug-in hybrid and electric models in 2026, and to have banned all of its internal combustion engines. And finally, the final step is to switch to 100% electric power for all its sports cars in 2030.
The brand has put a stop to these engines, which have long made its history until now, the W12 and V8, but is maintaining its position by insisting that it will keep its title as a manufacturer of top-of-the-range sports cars. In fact, early concept ideas suggest that a first model could be the Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid, an engine system similar to the one found in the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid, and a second model not far from the Bentley Continental GT with an electric motor called PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle).
