On Wednesday, June 8, the European Parliament voted a historic text banning the sale of combustion engine vehicles in Europe by 2035. However, some luxury manufacturers are exempt from this decision. Explanations.
Indeed, this decision was taken with the objective of reducing by 100% the CO2 emissions of vehicles sold new in the European Union by 2035. To achieve this decision, thermal vehicles, i.e., those running on diesel or gasoline engines, will be banned, as well as hybrids. Only 100% electric models will be allowed to enter production, currently considered the only technological vehicles that meet all ecological criteria.
However, a discreet amendment offers an exemption to high-end manufacturers who can thus escape this ban.
Why are luxury manufacturers exempted?
An amendment nicknamed “Ferrari”, tabled by Roberto Cingolani, Italian Minister of Ecological Transition and former member of the board of directors of Ferrari, allows luxury car manufacturers producing less than 1,000 of their vehicles per year to continue to run on gasoline. He justified this decision by explaining that for Ferrari and Lamborghini, for example, it would be more difficult for high-end models to switch to electric power. Bugatti, which rarely produces more than 100 vehicles per year, is affected by this amendment.
For their part, manufacturers producing between 1,000 and 10,000 cars per year will have to comply with the sales ban one year later, as of January 1, 2036, or apply for an exemption. Indeed, the text gives these companies until December 31, 2035 to apply for a temporary derogation from the CO2 quotas imposed by the European regulation.
Nevertheless, the environmental NGOs present at this meeting have nevertheless emphasized “a revolution that is both ecological and industrial for the automotive sector”.

With more than 150 exhibitors and no less than 4,000 visitors for its 12th edition, the event will bring together brands of finished products and suppliers of ingredients, formulation, packaging, accessories but also devices and digital solutions.
“The pandemic has interrupted trade shows, but the beauty industry, more than any other sector, needs a real trade show with face-to-face contacts. The use of the five senses is mandatory to evaluate a beauty product” , said Sandra Maguarian, founder and director of the show.
The detailed program of conferences
Also, the show plans to organize several (and many!) conferences and debates, led by experts in the field of beauty and who will give their insights into the trends of the global market in this sector.
