On 5 July, the Balmain show will be held in Paris, orchestrated in two stages by Olivier Rousteing, the house’s artistic director since 2011. A show that is not lacking in originality.

At a time when the global pandemic has considerably affected the mood of the crowds and is still plunging society into a period of uncertainty, Olivier Rousteing has chosen to present a collection on the water, the opposite of simple videos and lookbooks.

“I think that each of us will forever remember this last spring as a dark spring, marked by new fears and compulsory isolation. Even for those of us who were lucky enough to only have to deal with the frustrations of Zoom and the fever of confinement, that isolation made it very clear how much we took what we had for granted. Forced to separate, we suddenly realized that we depended on being together. Locked indoors, we longed for the beauty of the outdoor public spaces of our hometown, Paris,” explained the artistic director.

The event also marks the 75th anniversary of the House of Balmain. An ode to the house and its flagship artistic directors, Olivier Rousteing will highlight men’s and women’s tailoring looks from current collections as well as archival silhouettes imagined by Pierre Balmain and a handful of his predecessors such as Erik Mortensen and Oscar de la Renta.

Developed in close collaboration with Beyoncé’s Artistic Director Andrew Makadski, but also alongside choreographer Jean-Charles Jousni, the show will feature a live musical performance hosted by singer Yseult.

If the parade is not open to the public, it will be the first to be featured on the Tik Tok social network.
