Balmain appoints Matteo Sgarbossa as its head. Currently serving at Givenchy, the Italian will assume his duties starting from May 6th.
The House of Balmain has just announced the appointment of Matteo Sgarbossa as President and CEO. Currently the international director of Givenchy and a member of its executive committee, Matteo Sgarbossa will assume his duties at the label founded by Pierre Balmain on May 6th.
This news follows the departure of Jean-Jacques Guével last March. After four years at the helm of Balmain, the latter had announced his departure from the luxury House “to pursue other projects“.
“Matteo’s strong leadership skills and extensive experience in the fashion and luxury industry at high levels make him the ideal person to lead Balmain. I am convinced that his energy and knowledge of the global market will be decisive in this new phase of Balmain and that his partnership with Olivier Rousteing will lead to a very fruitful chapter in the history of the house.” said Rachid Mohamed Rachid, President of Balmain and CEO of Mayhoola.
Matteo Sgarbossa will be responsible for accelerating Balmain’s international growth by building on the “solid foundations” established in recent years. He will work closely with Olivier Rousteing, the brand’s creative director, to strengthen Balmain’s reputation.
“Balmain has been synonymous with creativity and innovation since its founding in 1945,” said the 43-year-old Italian in a statement. “I am very excited to continue building on this unique heritage. I express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Rachid and Mayhoola for entrusting me with the task of guiding the house towards its next chapter of success.”
