Art Basel Miami, the largest art fair in the United States, presents its new edition on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. With more than 280 exhibitors from around the world, it starts today and runs through Saturday, December 3 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
Art Basel Miami was born 20 years ago, and never before has an art fair had such a powerful impact on a city. It has become the most important art fair in the United States, not only in terms of quality, but also in terms of participation, with 283 exhibitors this year, from 38 different countries and territories. More than 90,000 visitors are expected.
It has become a not-to-be-missed art event on the American continent. Works by modern masters rub shoulders with those of contemporary artists and young talents among the most prestigious in the world.
It combines an international selection of galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa. A rich program of exhibitions and events related to music, film, architecture and design takes place there. In short, it has become an unmissable place where artists from all over the world come together and where all the arts become one, to bring a colorful show, literally and figuratively.
This year, 14 French galleries are participating, including Ceysson & Bénetière, Crèvecoeur, Christophe Gaillard, Perrotin and Lelong.

Virtual exhibitions, as if you were there
For those who cannot afford to fly to Florida or who are not directly on site, Art Basel offers virtual tours.
Among the themes presented, some are highlighted in both similar and opposite ways by many artists. One example is Black Practices, which aims to highlight the creative excellence of black artists. Many of them denounce racism in their works.
Other themes such as Ecological Orientations or Queer Strategies highlight very current societal issues. The artists inspired by the Queer Strategies theme are not there for their identity, but first and foremost, for the ability of their art to rethink the public’s everyday expectations of bodies and social situations. Art remains an international and timeless medium that they use to show their emotions, feelings and express their ideas.
These first three topical themes are mixed with a last one, more patrimonial, that is Masterpieces of the 20th century. The selected works of art focus on painting and photography.
Art Basel Miami: an endless well of culture
In addition to these exhibitions, both real and virtual, Art Basel offers many other things. There are conferences on primitive art and others on the art market. One can also attend round tables and original performances. The American fair is also associated with many museums. Finally, a partner fair, Design Miami, accessible all weekend, presents the best international galleries of furniture, lighting and historical and contemporary art objects.
