A case that sheds light on illegal practices in the fashion industry’s supply chain. The reputation of Italian fashion house Giorgio Armani has been tarnished by serious allegations of moonlighting, revealed by a recent police investigation.
Italian police have identified a company at the heart of the matter, Giorgio Armani Operations spa, which reports to Giorgio Armani spa and is responsible for managing the famous Italian group’s collections and accessories.
According to the investigators, this company used a supplier, Manifatture Lombarde srl, which in turn entrusted production to subcontractors operating in Chinese workshops located in the province of Milan. These workshops were said to have employed undocumented and illegal workers to manufacture Armani bags, leather goods and accessories.
These workers were allegedly subjected to undignified working conditions, violating health and safety regulations, as well as standards concerning working hours and vacations.
Armani’s cooperation with the Italian justice system
In the face of these accusations, Armani has denied any involvement in illegal practices, claiming to have implemented control and prevention measures to limit abuses within its supply chain.
