The Italian government has chosen the former head of online travel company Expedia to take over La Perla. He will acquire the brand, the production site, and the employees of the iconic Italian lingerie company.
La Perla is saved!
As promised at the end of May by Adolfo Urso, the Italian Minister of Trade and Made in Italy, the flagship of luxury lingerie will be taken over, and what’s more, under favorable conditions for the brand and its employees.
Adolfo Urso confirmed on Tuesday, June 10, in a press release that American Peter Kern, former CEO of online travel company Expedia, had been selected to give “a perspective and a future” to this “global icon of Italian fashion.”
Calzedonia, unsuccessful candidate for the takeover
By offering to pay €25 million for La Perla through Luxury Holding LLC, Peter Kern was not the highest bidder in financial terms among the candidates for the takeover, according to the Italian daily Il Messaggero, which included Italian lingerie brand Calzedonia. The latter had already been an unsuccessful candidate for the takeover during a previous receivership of the brand in 2013.
