Both firms helped China seize counterfeit products in Zheijang.

Italy’s Salvatore Ferragamo and Amazon said Tuesday that Chinese authorities had seized counterfeit products in Zheijang province, following an investigation produced by the luxury group and the online retailer.

The investigation reported the activities of a counterfeiter of Ferragamo‘s iconic Gancini belt to China’s market supervision and administration authorities (MSA). Chinese authorities then raided a warehouse, seizing hundreds of counterfeits of Ferragamo’s iconic belt and buckles after the producer attempted to sell them on Amazon as originals, the two companies said in a joint statement.

Both groups said they will continue to assist law enforcement in investigating counterfeiters and preventing their products from entering the global supply chain to help stop the trade at its source.

Already in February 2021, Amazon and Ferragamo jointly filed two lawsuits in the United States against manufacturers of counterfeit products. Ferragamo removed more than 22,000 products and profiles on social networks and more than 130,000 product listings on online stores last year.

Amazon, meanwhile, does not allow the sale of counterfeits on its website and in 2020 invested more than $700 million to prevent counterfeit products from being found on its site.
