The Veuve Clicquot Champagne House (owned by LVMH) travels and explores new markets in Africa, at a time when the demand for high-end products is only increasing on the continent.

Veuve Clicquot already knows the African continent. Indeed, the House of Sparkling Wines already sells its products in South Africa, Nigeria and the Maghreb countries. But, as she sees more and more, she plans to expand in East Africa, especially in Kenya and Ghana. This development aims to strengthen its presence on the continent, according to Jean-Marc Gallot, general manager of the brand.

South Africa is the largest champagne export market in Africa and the 22nd largest destination in the world, according to the Champagne Committee.

Regarding Veuve Clicquot, a market share of 90% allowed the country to position itself among the top 10 global sectors: “By far, South Africa is the number one market for champagne for us” commented Jean-Marc Gallot.

The company has benefited from “love for big brands” in South Africa. The House wishes to maintain its leading position on the South African brand, while developing on the rest of the continent.

To maintain its place in South Africa, the company is taking steps, such as suspending or slowing down the significant price increases it has implemented over the past two years: “I think we will certainly be more reasonable or less ambitious in the next price increase in the future,” said Gallot.
