Six Senses strengthens its presence in Greater China with a new property in Beijing

Six Senses announces the upcoming opening of a new property in Beijing, in the Haidian district. Backed by a management agreement with a local partner, the project is part of the rehabilitation of a major historic site, combining imperial heritage, nature, and a high-end hospitality experience.

The second property of the luxury brand in Greater China after Qing Cheng Mountain, Six Senses Beijing energizes the upscale hospitality sector in the Haidian district, at the heart of the Chinese capital.

This project is based on a hotel management agreement signed with Beijing Zhongguancun Avenue Construction & Development Group. In concrete terms, this means that Six Senses, a flagship of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, will be responsible for operating the hotel (management, brand, service standards), while the local partner remains the owner.

A listed historic site

The property is part of the redevelopment project of Liulangzhuang, which is set to become a major cultural hub and a place for international exchange. The site enjoys an exceptional location, close to the “Three Hills and Five Gardens,” a designated historic area closely linked to the Summer Palace and the former imperial residences of the Qing dynasty. Once occupied by imperial rice paddies used to supply the court, this site rich in history now reinforces the cultural and heritage dimension of the project.

“The Three Hills and Five Gardens area carries deep cultural and historical significance, and we are honored to take part in the revival of Liulangzhuang,” explained Neil Palmer, Chief Operating Officer of Six Senses. “Together with our partners, we look forward to creating an urban oasis where our guests can immerse themselves in the spirit of Beijing in a way that is distinctly Six Senses, both restorative and rejuvenating.”

A hotel structured around water

To showcase this historic site, waterways and lotus ponds – some restored from original features – will shape the landscape. Water therefore plays a central role in the design. A jetty will connect the arrival hall and lounge to the various facilities of the complex, many of which will be located directly along the water’s edge.

Bathed in natural light, pavilions will house the restaurants, subtly blending historical motifs with contemporary lines in a harmonious dialogue with their aquatic surroundings. At the heart of the complex, an exceptional two-level residence will provide a spacious and flexible setting for private events, with access both by boat and via a private driveway, further strengthening this unique connection to water.

75 rooms inspired by traditional siheyuan

The hotel features 75 keys, ranging from one to four bedrooms, designed as a contemporary reinterpretation of siheyuan, the traditional residences organized around a central courtyard. The architecture draws inspiration from this heritage while adapting it to modern lifestyles, creating spaces that are open, intimate, and deeply rooted in their environment. The interiors extend this approach, favoring a soothing atmosphere conceived as a true sanctuary in the heart of nature.

Depending on their layout, some rooms open onto private gardens with direct water access via pontoons, while others are arranged around more discreet courtyards shaded by magnolia trees. The whole is connected by a network of alleyways inspired by hutongs, structuring circulation between the buildings and reinforcing the authentic character of the site, spread across two neighboring areas.

An ode to well-being

As with the brand’s 27 other properties, including the London property opened in March 2025, well-being lies at the heart of the hotel’s offering. Whether for a treatment or a multi-day retreat, each program is tailored to the guest’s preferences and needs. Personalized assessments, biohacking, the “Sleep with Six Senses” ritual… numerous experiences are offered, combining science with ancestral practices.

Relaxation and rejuvenation are the guiding principles of this spa, where a sense of wisdom and complete calm prevails. This nature-connected approach is further enhanced by signature Six Senses spaces. The hotel features an Earth Lab where guests and locals can take part in hands-on workshops focused on sustainable living. Meanwhile, the Alchemy Bar introduces the benefits of plants, allowing visitors to create their own botanical scrubs and lotions for their spa treatments.
