The Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix, or GPHG, rewards innovative and artistic creations in the field of watchmaking each year, in fourteen different categories. The winners of this twentieth edition are to be announced on 4 November at the Théâtre Léman in Geneva.
84 watches are competing at this year’s GPHG to try to succeed the Swiss manufacture Piaget, winner of the Aiguille d’Or 202, the most prestigious prize awarded by the jury. The “ladies‘”, “jewellery“, “diving” and “men’s complication” categories are also highly anticipated.
Participating in this type of competition requires time, patience and talent. This is the case, for example, of the Bulgari brand, which designs, develops and produces all the essential parts of its creations in-house. For brands of this scale, developing a model that will compete at the prestigious GPHG can take several years.
For this twentieth edition, 1200 people are expected to attend the Théâtre du Léman in Geneva on 4 November to discover the jury’s choices. This year, in addition to the 84 watches in competition, the Aiguille d’Or winners from previous editions will also be on display in a preliminary exhibition at the Musée Rath.
Although the GPHG’s most prestigious prize is contested by 84 competitors, no fewer than 250 watches are taking part in the event, in several categories and representing the entire luxury watch market. Since last year, it is the GPHG Academy, made up of 500 members, which selects and then elects the winners. Its choices cannot be contested and truly consecrate the most deserving watchmaking creations.
This year, watches by Chanel, Hermès, Chopard, Louis Vuitton and Audemars Piguet are in the running for the Aiguille d’Or prize. For its part, Piager, winner of the 2020 edition, has five finalist watches in various categories.
