New members are joining the GPHG Academy this year, bringing the total number to 827 worldwide. This year’s class of 2023 includes 35 young people aged 25 and under.

Created in 2001, the Fondation Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) opens its doors to young people. Recognized as a public utility since 2011, it pursues a mission of international promotion of the art of watchmaking. It organizes an annual award ceremony in Geneva in November.

The Academy of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève has just created a college specially dedicated to young people under 26 years of age, “bearers of talent and fresh perspectives”, it says in a statement.

After this age, the winners will join their peers in one of the Academy’s colleges, depending on their specificities.

The Academy is made up of seven colleges: watchmakers; designers and craftsmen; watch-related industries; experts; distributors and retailers; journalists and influencers; brands; and guests.

Entry selection

From April onwards, all the players in the GPHG Academy will take part in a proposal phase for watch models likely to compete. As soon as the brand registrations have been validated, a first vote will follow to determine the pre-selection. The members of the Academy will vote digitally a second time in October in order to participate in the choice of their winners.

At the same time, the Jury composed of 30 members also from the Academy (15 people chosen by lot by a notary and 15 people chosen by the President of the Jury and the GPHG) will meet behind closed doors in Geneva to physically evaluate the competing timepieces. The electronic votes of the Academy added to those of the Jury will determine the prestigious prize list.

Entries will be open to brands from May 2023 and the winner will be revealed in Geneva on November 9th at the 23rd GPHG Awards Ceremony.
