Targeted by the United States with potentially very high reciprocal tariffs, Vietnam is trying to demonstrate its good faith in terms of trade practices. In particular, it is stepping up its efforts to combat counterfeiting.

According to the country’s official media, thousands of counterfeit products, including imitation Rolex watches and Prada handbags, as well as items falsely bearing the Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Hermès, and Longines brands, were recently seized by Vietnamese authorities during a raid on the Saigon Square shopping center in the business district of Ho Chi Minh City.
It is obviously no coincidence that, in early May, a Reuters news agency report mentioned the presence of counterfeit goods in the same shopping center. The center was listed as a “notorious market for counterfeiting” in a report published last January by the US Trade Representative….
Demonstration of goodwill
Behind this action, which has been widely reported in the official media, is Vietnam’s desire to demonstrate its goodwill towards the Trump administration.
