The Jacquemart-André museum pays tribute to the Italian artist Botticelli in September with numerous works from all over the world.
After being postponed due to the health crisis, the Botticelli exhibition will finally arrive at the Jacquemart-André museum in September 2021. On this occasion, the museum offers us a return to the 15th century in Italy, at the dawn of the Renaissance. About forty works by the artist are expected for this cultural event.
Botticelli, in the same way as Michelangelo and Da Vinci, is one of those who have marked the evolution and influence of the city of Florence, particularly under the Medici dynasty. His work has succeeded in crossing the centuries.
Ana Debenedetti, curator of the exhibition, with the help of curator Pierre Curie and scenographer Hubert de Gall, has succeeded in summarizing Botticelli’s vast career in several dozen works. The exhibition will illustrate the artistic and personal evolution of the painter known for two of his greatest masterpieces, The Birth of Venus and Spring, a true witness to the influence and changes in Florentine society.
To put together this exhibition, Ana Debenedetti, who is also the curator of paintings and drawings at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, selected works from the collections of museums around the world, such as the Louvre, the National Gallery in London and the Vatican museums and libraries.
The exhibition will show the importance given during the Renaissance to the workshop practice, which went from original creation to mass production. The artist should thus be presented under the prism of the creator, but also under that of the entrepreneur and the trainer.
The Jacquemart-André Museum will host this exhibition from September 10, 2021 to January 24, 2022.
