The Paris Bourse edged up on Wednesday, but the mood remained cautious in the face of a string of corporate results, renewed trade tensions in Washington and a series of mixed economic indicators in Europe and China.
A fragile end-of-month advance
The CAC 40 advanced 0.54% to 7,596 points at midday on the last trading day of April, a month marked by sharp fluctuations against a backdrop of geopolitical and economic uncertainty. The day promises to be a busy one, with many companies reporting quarterly results, and the evening release of eagerly-awaited figures from Microsoft and Meta, which will set the tone for the global technology sector.
On the French front, Société Générale shines, up 4%, after reporting better-than-expected results, buoyed by a rebound in retail banking and solid performances in investment banking. Conversely, Crédit Agricole fell by 3.8%, weighed down by a 4.2% drop in net profit, despite record first-quarter sales.
