Shangri-La launches its new ultra-luxury brand with the opening of The Silk Lakehouse

An emblematic figure in the Asian hotel industry for over half a century, the Shangri-La group inaugurates a new era in its history with the official launch of Shangri-La Signatures, its new ultra-luxury brand. This exclusive collection sees the light of day at The Silk Lakehouse, the first address to open in Hangzhou, China.

 

With Shangri-La Signatures, the Group aims to break away from the standardization of international luxury. Far from impersonal codes, the brand claims an emotional hospitality, inspired by the soul of the place, local craftsmanship and cultural stories.

 

A new philosophy of luxury

 

On the shores of West Lake, a legendary UNESCO World Heritage site, The Silk Lakehouse illustrates this new vision of luxury. Inspired by the traditional architecture of the Jiangnan silk merchants’ houses, its design was entrusted to two major figures on the international scene : Belgium’s Gert Voorjans and Spain’s Lázaro Rosa-Violán.

 

Together, they have created a sophisticated yet warm universe, where every detail, from the woodwork to the objets d’art, pays homage to the region’s heritage. A spectacular Murano glass installation, suspended in the lobby, embodies this meeting of tradition and contemporary creation, evoking the willows of Western Lake.
