Fausto Puglisi, Artistic Director of Roberto Cavalli, has resurrected the Ray of Gold print, imagined by the House’s eponymous founder for the spring-summer 2007 collection. For 2024, the Ray of Gold is available in a lifestyle capsule, with a preview offer for the Maison launched during Milan Design Week.
Spirit of Roberto Cavalli, are you there?
Just a few days after the death of the famous Florentine designer at the age of 83, his presence is hovering all over Milan, on the occasion of Milan Design Week, held from April 16 to 21.
The Maison, owned since 2019 by Vision Investment, the Dubai investment fund of real estate magnate Hussain Sajwani, is taking advantage of the most popular event in interior design to present a preview of the Ray of Gold capsule. These black stripes on a gold and white background, evoking a sumptuous imaginary exotic animal, form the basis of the star print of his new Home collections.
Residents of Milan and visitors to the Fashion of Design can find it in mobile form, adorning a streetcar travelling the city’s streets, or static, in the Condé-Nast Bistrot in Piazza Cordusio, “relooked” with this motif, as part of a collaboration with AD magazine.
Magical inspiration
Roberto Cavalli was inspired to use this historic print for his Spring/Summer 2007 collection during one of life’s little moments of grace. Sitting at a table, the designer was captivated by the vision of a ray of sunlight refracting on his Art Deco gold lighter. He captured this magical moment with his camera. The photo gave rise to the print for his future ready-to-wear collection, before being transposed for Couture.
