[Luxus Magazine] Cristiano Ronaldo : the odyssey of the boy from Madeira who became a billionaire

Cristiano Ronaldo is quite simply one of the most famous athletes in the world. His achievements on and off the field have made him a global icon for more than twenty years now.

In 2025, Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record in the history of sport : he became the first athlete to officially achieve billionaire status, having earned €1.2 billion over his career according to Bloomberg—an achievement that goes beyond mere exploits on the field. Beyond his unforgettable performances, it is his ability to convert his talent into global economic influence that makes him a model of success today.

The foundations of a legend

Born in 1985 on the Portuguese island of Madeira, Cristiano Ronaldo grew up in a modest family. This did not prevent him from being spotted early on for his exceptional football talent : he quickly joined the Sporting CP training center, where he attracted the interest of the biggest European clubs.

His transfer to Manchester United in 2003 at just 18 years old marked the beginning of his exceptional career. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, he quickly became one of the most promising young talents in world football : his speed, technique, and mental strength propelled him rapidly to the top of the sport. Between 2003 and 2009, he scored 118 goals for the Red Devils and won three Premier League titles, the 2008 Champions League, the Club World Cup, and a Ballon d’Or.

He then moved to Real Madrid in 2009 for €94 million and began one of the most prolific chapters in football history. At this club, Ronaldo scored 450 goals in 438 games, becoming Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer. He contributed to four Champions League victories, including three consecutive titles from 2016 to 2018, and went on to win four Ballon d’Or awards during this period : in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017.
