On 7 January in Beverly Hills, the 81st Golden Globes ceremony honoured the best films released in 2023 and the talent behind them. Here’s a look back at the evening’s winners and the looks of the celebrities in attendance.
Unsurprisingly, Oppenheimer scooped a number of awards at the 81st Golden Globes ceremony. The film, which traces the ultra-secret development of the atomic bomb during the Second World War, was crowned Best Drama. Christopher Nolan won Best Director, while the film’s lead actor, Cillian Murphy, was named Best Actor in a Dramatic Film. Robert Downey Jr was named Best Supporting Actor. The award for Best Film Score also went to Oppenheimer for the soundtrack by Ludwig Göransson.
Anatomy of a Fall also won the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film. Directed by French filmmaker Justine Triet, the film tells the story of writer Sandra, her husband Samuel and their 11-year-old son Daniel. After Samuel’s death, Sandra becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation.
Best Musical/Comedy Film went to Poor Creatures. Emma Stone, who was part of the cast, won the award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. The film tells the story of the adventure and discovery of Bella, a curious woman determined to advocate her values of equality and liberation.
